EDTA tubes are available as either K3 EDTA or K2 EDTA tubes. EDTA binds the calcium ions and therefore blocks the coagulation cascade. Erythrocytes, leucocytes and thrombocytes in an EDTA anti-coagulated blood sample remain stable for up to 24 hours. EDTA tubes are used for the examination of whole blood in hematology.
