Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is an innovative regenerative healing approach  in a variety of clinical fields, including in Oral and  Maxillofacial Surgery. PRP comprises a concentrated autologous suspension of platelets in supraphysiological concentration.

Platelets contain α granules containing cytokines, growth factors and bioactive proteins essential for tissue repair and healing.  Upon injury, platelets initiate blood coagulation and release growth factors that activate the healing response ( PDGF/ TGF/ VEGF/ EGF etc.)These bioactive proteins initiate soft and hard tissue healing, including bone and connective tissue regeneration and repair, promote development of new blood vessels and stimulate overall wound healing process.

In dentistry, platelet –derived products may come in the form of liquid PRP /  Platelet-Rich Fibrin Matrix, which is activated form of PRP or Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF), which is a polymerized fibrin matrix with incorporation of circulating platelets and leukocytes.
